This policy describes what information this website collects and how Americans for Accountability (the “committee,” “we,” or “us”) uses it. The committee is an independent expenditure-only political committee registered with the Federal Election Commission.
Information you provide
Updates sign-up. When the sign-up form is open, it asks for your email address and ZIP code, and optionally your name, a mobile phone number, and areas in which you can help. If you provide a phone number and check the separate text-message consent box, we record that consent, the exact consent text you saw, and the time you gave it. The information is sent to the email service the committee uses to deliver messages, which may send a confirmation email before adding you.
Contact form. When the contact form is open, it asks for your name, email address, the topic, and your message. The message is delivered to the committee mailbox for that topic and is kept so we can respond.
Contributions. When online contributions are open, the Donate page asks for your name, email address, mailing address, employer, occupation, the amount you intend to give, and confirmation that you are eligible to contribute. Federal law requires the committee to make best efforts to obtain and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and employer of each person whose contributions exceed $200 in a calendar year. That information, your eligibility confirmations, the time you submitted them, and the status of the payment are stored by the committee so it can meet its reporting obligations. Payment itself is completed on PayPal’s site under PayPal’s own privacy policy; the committee receives the payment confirmation, the amount, and the payer email PayPal reports, and never receives your card or bank details.
Email you send us. If you write to a committee address, we keep the message and use it to respond.
Information collected automatically
This site does not use advertising trackers and does not set cookies for tracking. Fonts are served from this domain.
If the committee enables website analytics, it uses a service that does not use cookies and does not collect personal data; the current status is stated on the Transparency page.
To protect its forms from automated abuse, the committee may use Cloudflare Turnstile, which runs a check in your browser when you submit a form and is subject to Cloudflare’s privacy policy. The forms also record a one-way hash of your network address for rate limiting; the address itself is not stored.
The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes network data to deliver it.
How we use information
- To send the updates you asked for.
- To send text messages, only if you separately opted in. Reply STOP to any message to stop.
- To process and record contributions and to comply with federal campaign finance law, including reporting contributor information to the FEC, where it becomes a public record.
- To respond to your messages.
- To keep the site and its forms secure.
Sharing
We do not sell your information. We share it only with vendors that process it on the committee’s behalf (email and text-message delivery, the contact-form delivery service, Cloudflare, and PayPal for payment processing), with the FEC as required by law, and when required by legal process.
Retention
Sign-up information is kept until you unsubscribe. Contact messages are kept as long as needed to respond and for the committee’s records. Contribution records are kept for as long as federal campaign finance law requires the committee to keep them.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from email using the link in any message, stop text messages by replying STOP, and ask us to correct or delete the information you gave us by writing to the address on the Contact page. Information already reported to the FEC cannot be withdrawn from public filings, and contribution records the law requires the committee to keep cannot be deleted on request.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
